A great feature of the WordPress content editor is the ability to use shortcodes to enhance your content. However, WordPress only comes with the [gallery] shortcode. So today we are launching ZillaShortcodes, a free plugin that includes a bunch of shortcodes that is compaitble with any theme (not just our ThemeZilla themes).
The ZillaShortcodes plugin includes a bunch of popular shortcodes, you can include columns, buttons, toggles, alerts and tabs with the click of a button. The available shortcodes have been included in a super useful one-click menu, just to make things even simpler.
When creating a page or post, click the “Z” icon to reveal a list of shortcodes (you must be in visual editor mode). Choose the functionality you wish to include, configure the options and insert. Job Done.
Customers who have already purchased one of our themes will be aware that the shortcode functionality used to come packaged with our themes in the past. For several reasons we decided to pull it out of our themes and make it a plugin:
- To allow people who don’t use our themes to be able to use our shortcodes.
- You don’t have to worry about changing your theme and losing your shortcodes. Take them with you wherever you go.
- As a plugin it is easier to maintain and develop the code.
- When an update for the plugin is available, you will only need to update the plugin and not your entire theme.
All of our new themes will be 100% compatible with the plugin. If you have purchased one of our older themes, don’t panic. We are in the process of updating our older themes so that they will be compatible with the new plugin.
So, what are you waiting for? Go and take a look at the ZillaShortcodes plugin now.

Cool thing! Thank you
Love the clean code!
If you make any updates to this in the distant future I sagest you look at the ‘media_buttons’ action hook along with a thick box popup, you’ll have less JavaScript running in the background and you’ll also find it to be lest tedious updating your scripts if WP decides to update tinyMCE.
Best of luck to you and the Themezilla crew!
Thanks for the suggestions Roland. We’ll definitely take a look at that for future versions.
I’ve been looking forward for plugins to expand your (now ThemeZilla) themes for quite a time…
If you guys keep making them there will be no equal to you themes!
p.s. I have the scope theme and always wanted the drop-down notifier in the top right corner as a plugin (like in nucleus). if you’ll consider that for future plugins let me know.
Love Your Work!!!!!!!!
Thanks Nick. As it happens we’ve almost finished making that plugin. Keep a look out.
HI,
is there any way how to add some my custom shortcodes to your plugin?
Thx for awesome themes and that great plugin.
Cheers!
The plugin is released GPL, so you are free to do with it what you like.
Wau that’s awesome :) And can you tell me in to which file I should paste my shortcodes code?
Thx for your response.
You can work with shortcodes.php.
One question : can i use this plugin as apart of my theme for sale in some marketplaces like Themforest.net or Mojotheme?
Thank you
If you’re planning on baking the plugin into a theme, it kind of defeats the purpose of having it as a plugin. I’d suggest including styles within your style.css file to style up the shortcodes should the user activate the shortcodes. However, you are free to do with the plugin as you’d like.
hi, I want know I can use your code as base to create my shortcodes for commercial use i.e themeforest or mojotheme … not as external plugin but as built-in with clear your brand in codes.
thanks
That kind of defeats the purpose of the plugin. The idea was to separate theme and shortcodes so that content wouldn’t break upon changing themes.
ok, but is it possible that I edit it for create my shortcodes and then put it in downloaded zip file on themeforest, mojotheme,… etc. for commercial use?
also I can unbranded it by removing your brand name or not?
thanks again.
Can I install it on blogger?
Afraid not. We’re WordPress only.
